Occupational health, combating discrimination and road safety: MMA takes action to prevent risky behaviours in order to protect the wellbeing and safety of its employees.

Protecting employees’ health and quality of life at work

The Group’s medical teams are made up of doctors and nurses qualified in occupational health. They play a preventive role in a number of ways:

  • Organising occupational health campaigns to protect employees’ physical and mental health;
  • Advising on measures to take to reduce occupational risk and improve working conditions;
  • Providing employees with information during advice and prevention visits, in particular on the potential risks they may face.

The Group has an occupational and health risk prevention policy for all employees to:

  • Improve quality of life at work;
  • Protect employees’ physical and mental health (work-related stress, musculoskeletal disorders, cardiovascular disease, etc.);
  • Anticipate statutory occupational health and safety requirements;
  • Contribute to the company’s long-term performance;
  • Establish a high standard of social dialogue.

The Group’s efforts to protect employees’ health also entail:

  • Creation of an educational escape game on addictions to raise employee awareness;
  • An e-learning programme on first aid and road safety;
  • Ongoing actions such as studies into absenteeism, workplace and travel accidents, coordination between business units, risk assessments, human impact studies, reviews of the road safety training plan and asbestos plan, and updating of prevention procedures.

Enhanced site visits

In accordance with the French law of 2 August 2021, the Group has amended procedures for its site visits to monitor occupational health prevention services.

A health check is provided for employees at all key stages of their career:
Pre-joining (for employees exposed to risk);

  • In the three months after joining;
  • Within a maximum of five years;
  • If they are off work for more than 30 days in a row (at the request of the employee, the treating physician or the CPAM medical advisor);
  • After long-term absence from work (maternity leave, 30 days off work due to an occupational accident, etc.) at the employer’s request;
  • At any time if requested by the employee;
  • Mid-career (at the employer’s request);
  • At the end of their career (for employees exposed to risk).

Emphasis on training

In 2021, six main training themes were explored within the Covéa Group. These training sessions had a total of 26,087 participants and provided a total of 18,731 hours of training(1), relating primarily to:

  • Asbestos risk;
  • Diversity and disability;
  • Road safety;
  • Preventing and handling difficult situations;
  • Safety (fire, first aid, etc.).

Highlighting the importance of prevention, the number of occupational accidents at the Group decreased by 22% in 2021 relative to 2020, compared with a 17.7% reduction in France as a whole(1).

Preventing road traffic accidents

Internally, MMA takes measures to raise awareness about road safety. This includes in particular debriefing meetings with employees after an accident.

Each year, 4,000 telephone calls are made to check on Covéa employees involved in a car accident. The aim is to:

  • Educate employees, particularly as they are the main points of contact with members;
  • Advise on best practices;
  • Use this feedback to prevent occupational road accidents, in particular by devising specific training programmes.
