Covéa steps up its policy in support of employee well-being and safety
With its focus on health, safety and quality of life in the workplace, Covéa holds people at the heart of its strategy. Through its MMA, MAAF, GMF and Fidelia brands, the Group operates an ambitious, structured risk prevention policy for all its employees.
A comprehensive approach to guard against risks at all levels
Covéa’s strategy is based on three levels of risk prevention:
- Primary risk prevention: guarding against risks through the Unified Occupational Risk Assessment Document (known by its French acronym, DUERP), health assessments, ergonomics and the CARE programme, which examines the causes of absenteeism,
- Secondary risk prevention: raising awareness and providing ongoing training through e-learning modules, workshops, awareness campaigns and information sheets,
- Tertiary risk prevention: tailored support for complex situations, with the backing of managers, the HR department and the Risk Prevention and Occupational Health team.
Tangible results
Covéa is boosting health support for employees. It uses the DUERP to identify occupational risks and puts in place concrete measures to address them.
The results are encouraging – commuting accidents are down, as are musculoskeletal disorders, and fewer work-related mental health issues are being reported.
However, a close watch is being kept on antisocial behaviour, an issue which particularly affects teams working with customers. Covéa is tackling this by enhancing the psychological support it offers.
Reducing risks through training
Training remains a core part of the strategy. Themes covered span everything from first aid and mental health issues to disability and diversity.
A proactive approach to road safety
Covéa recognises the risks incurred in business travel and has put in place a wide-ranging plan to reduce them:
- A travel charter, safer vehicles and adaptations to sites,
- Specific training for employees who are often on the road,
- Systematic incident analysis to improve practices.
Enhanced professional support
The Risk Prevention and Occupational Health team, made up of professionals from a range of disciplines, plays a key role. This team is responsible for adapting jobs to specific needs and offers social support for a range of issues: health, work/life balance, informal carers, etc.
A continuous improvement approach
The PAPRIPACT annual programme to prevent occupational risks and improve working conditions demonstrates the group’s commitments:
- Workshops on mental health,
- Social audits and human impact studies,
- A network of Quality of Life and Working Conditions ambassadors (collective agreement on gender equality in the workplace, disability and quality of life and working conditions),
- An annual review of the DUERP to prioritise actions.
Covéa reaffirms its goal of providing employees with a healthy, safe and inclusive working environment where risk prevention serves to enhance performance and well-being.
